Save On Your Next San Diego Vacation With These 4 Tips
After scouring the web for easy information of cheap San Diego vacation tips, it suddenly occurred to me that I actually have all of the information that I need based upon my past experiences. The internet can be a pretty intimidating place, with endless amounts of online spam, content, and disinformation. Finding quality travel resources is getting harder and harder. So here are four of my personal tips on how you can vacation in San Diego and still enjoy yourself while only spending a fraction of the normal cost.
First things first – flying into San Diego is actually quite inexpensive and most major cities offer direct routes to and from the city. Booking on auction sites at the last minute has known to produce savings of up to 70%, which is especially true if your dates are flexible. Lindbergh Field is a mid-size airport right in the heart of the downtown San Diego. First-time visitors to the city may be a little surprised to find themselves zipping over the top of skyscrapers and landing seemingly on top of the San Diego Bay. However once landed, most find the San Diego airport to be extremely manageable and conveniently located to the revitalized center of the city, the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown.
Second – where to stay. The great thing about San Diego is the myriad of options available to you in terms of accommodation choices. With the traditional hotel chains located throughout the county and city, there are hundreds of hotels to choose from. But perhaps a lesser known accommodation type that is hot in San Diego are vacation rentals. This is especially true in the Gaslamp Quarter, where most of the buildings are less than 10 years old. Which means many of the vacation rentals in Downtown San Diego are actually newer than the hotels! And since many are outfitted with the same type of amenities, such as fitness rooms and swimming pools, the quality of stay is at worst no different than a traditional hotel stay. But the killer part is that many of these owners offer their units at reduced costs. So since you get a larger living space, and a better value for your money, it’s no wonder why “those in the know” are snapping up Gaslamp vacation rentals as soon as their travel plans are firmed up.
San Diego is famous for its inexpensive burrito shacks and half-priced sushi restaurants. No matter where you are in the city, ask a passerby on the street where the best mexican or sushi restaurant is and they will probably have a hard time deciding themselves. If you can plan on eating during happy hours and up at the bar you can usually get huge discounts at many different types of eateries.
San Diego Padres, San Diego Chargers, the San Diego Zoo, Seaworld, Legoland….all of these major attractions offer discounted tickets for families and individuals alike. Some common discounts include those offered through Costco, AAA, and Southwest airlines, whereas many local merchants and vendors also have discounted tickets available. And almost all allow for military personnel and their families to enter for free, so you can’t get cheaper than that! Whatever you want to do you are sure to find discounted tickets and prices on San Diego attractions and amusements.
Finally – four tips on how to save money on your next vacation to San Diego. Cheap flights, San Diego vacation rentals, corporate sponsorships on attraction tickets, and local eateries. No gimmicks and no skimping, you can still have the full California experience while saving 30, 40, even 50% off of a normal vacation cost. Vacation like a local and enjoy the rewards!
