The Different Areas Of London

There are so many different parts to the city of London that your visiting experience will depend on which part you travel to. London is essentially many diverse towns which are directly joined together, but there are some definite highlights:

Camden Town – Attracts a huge amount of visitors even though it is not very visually appealing. But its underground music scene and bustling market atmosphere make it very attractive. The market draws in 100,000 people every weekend and sells all kinds of things, many of which you would struggle to find all in one place anywhere else.

Covent Garden & The Strand – Host to a mixture of theatres, hotels and shops, the Strand, which is a wide street that runs from Trafalgar Square towards the City, is invariably thronged with people and vehicles. At one end of the Strand is Covent Garden, which is home to numerous bars, cafes, and entertainment such as mimes, dancers, and magicians, among others.

Chelsea – Fashionable shops, antique stores, and cute houses from the 18th and 19th centuries all come together to create an extremely popular town to visit. The main shopping area is King’s Road which will keep any keen shopper entertained for hours on end. Chelsea is also where the Premier League football champions, Chelsea FC, play.

Kensington – This town is perfect for people who love to shop and hope to catch a glimpse of royalty. There are many stores hawking anything and everything, and of course, Kensington Palace. In this area, your chances are much greater of seeing a member of the royal party coming or going from Kensington Palace. But you will still see some great sights and snap some fantastic pictures here, even if you don’t see a royal family member.

Oxford Circus & Piccadilly Circus – Among the most iconic of all London’s sites and visited by millions of tourists every year. Situated in the West End of London, Piccadilly Circus serves as a central hub and common meeting place and is thus very busy and a tad untidy. London’s main shopping district is Oxford Street which can be best entered from Oxford Circus.

Soho & Leicester Square – Soho is a very lively London town where you are sure to find excellent bars and fabulous eateries. Leicester Square, situated adjacent to Soho, is well known for the UK films that premier there. Be sure to take your camera and autograph book along as there are often movie and TV stars who frequent these areas.

Westminster – This is the town out of which the UK government operates, and you can also find the popular Westminster Abbey here. Grand, important buildings can be seen from every street corner and you cannot help but feel the rich history that surrounds you. Relive the days when the UK was at its most glorious with a walk around Westminster.
